President's Message

The rapidly evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents both unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges for higher education, particularly for a forward-looking institution like Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). As AI continues to reshape industries and redefine the future of work, it is our responsibility as educators to ensure that our graduates are prepared to adapt to this “intellectual revolution” and equipped to thrive and lead in an AI-driven world.

In alignment with HKMU's mission to deliver quality professional education through innovative teaching and educational technologies, we recognise the importance of staying ahead of the curve. The quality of education at HKMU must meet current needs and stand the test of time. To this end, HKMU has proactively embraced the rapid advancement of AI by establishing the Task Force on AI: Strategies and Implementation, now led by the Vice President (Strategic Initiatives). This dedicated team is charged with developing and executing strategies to integrate AI into our academic curriculum, enhance teaching, learning and research, improve administrative processes, and provide comprehensive training and support for our faculty and students.

The University is committed to supporting our community in exploring, assessing and adopting suitable AI tools that meet the diverse needs of our stakeholders. We will continue to invest in resources and infrastructure to ensure access to the most effective AI technologies available. Furthermore, to reduce reliance on external AI services, HKMU is leveraging its expertise to develop proprietary AI solutions tailored for the unique needs of our staff and students. This approach aligns with our educational goals and promotes a more equitable and inclusive learning environment across the university.

By thoughtfully integrating AI technologies into our educational framework, we are transforming traditional teaching methods and fostering a culture of personalised, adaptive learning. This strategic direction strengthens our commitment to innovative pedagogy and enhances the overall student learning experience, ensuring that HKMU remains at the forefront of educational innovation.

Finally, we are dedicated to cultivating essential AI literacy skills and fostering a culture of responsible, ethical AI usage within our university community. Through the formulation of clear policies and guidelines, we empower our faculty, staff and students to navigate the evolving technological landscape with confidence and integrity.
