Regulations for the Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies and Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies

 

1. General
1.1
These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2
In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3 The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies to the award of Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies.
1.4 A student shall complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies or Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies within one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study.  Under special circumstances, students may apply to the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences for extension of the maximum period of study, i.e. extension up to one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study.
 
2.
Entry Requirements
2.1
To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies or Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies, a student shall normally possess:
 
2.1.1
a Bachelor’s degree in social sciences from a recognized tertiary education institution, or equivalent; or
 
2.1.2
a Bachelor’s degree in non-social sciences disciplines with proven working experience in social welfare or crime control sectors and other related fields.
 
3.
Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies (PDCCSPSF)
3.1
To be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies, a student shall:
 
3.1.1
comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 
3.1.2
comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
 
3.1.3
obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2
For the Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies, the University has prescribed that a student must:
 
3.2.1
successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled CA, i.e. SOCI A801F, SOCI A802F, SOCI A803F, and PSYC A840F in Table 1.
 
4.
Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies (MSSCCCSPF)
4.1
To be eligible for the award of Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies, a student shall:
 
4.1.1
comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 
4.1.2
comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
 
4.1.3
obtain at least 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
4.2
For the Master of Social Sciences in Crime Control and Social Policy Studies, the University has prescribed that a student must:
 
4.2.1
successfully complete 50 credits from courses labelled CA in Table 1; and
 
4.2.2
successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled OA in Table 1.
