Regulations for the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation and Master of Arts in Applied Translation

1.	General
1.1	These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2	In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3	The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Translation to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation and the conversion of the above Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma to the award of Master of Arts in Applied Translation.
1.4	A student shall complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Translation or Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation or Master of Arts in Applied Translation within one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study. Under special circumstances, students may apply to the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences for extension of the maximum period of study, i.e. extension up to one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study.

2.	Entry Requirements
2.1	To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation and Master of Arts in Applied Translation, a student shall have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary education institution, or the equivalent.

3.	Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation (PDATF)
3.1	To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation, a student shall:
	3.1.1	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	3.1.2	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
	3.1.3	obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2	For the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Translation, the University has prescribed that a student must:
	3.2.1	successfully complete TRAN A800BF or TRAN A801BF (labelled PD1 in Table 1); and
	3.2.2	successfully complete 15 credits from courses labelled PD in Table 1; and
	3.2.3	successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled PDP in Table 1; and
	3.2.4	successfully complete 10 credits from any courses listed in Table 2 or any Postgraduate level courses offered by the University provided that approval has been obtained from the programme leader of the postgraduate programmes in Applied Translation.

4.	Master of Arts in Applied Translation (MAATF)
4.1	To be eligible for the award of Master of Arts in Applied Translation, a student shall:
	4.1.1	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	4.1.2	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
	4.1.3	obtain at least 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
4.2	For the Master of Arts in Applied Translation, the University has prescribed that a student must:
	4.2.1	successfully complete TRAN A832BF; and
	4.2.2	successfully complete TRAN A800BF or TRAN A801BF (labelled MA1 in Table1); and
	4.2.3	successfully complete 15 credits from courses labelled MA in Table 1; and
	4.2.4	successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled MAP in Table 1; and
	4.2.5	successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled MATP in Table 1; and
	4.2.6	successfully complete 10 credits from any courses listed in Table 2 or any Postgraduate level courses offered by the University provided that approval has been obtained from the programme leader of the postgraduate programmes in Applied Translation.

If students have successfully completed TRAN A810F, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for TRAN A811F.
Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the list of excluded combinations for details.
Students are advised to select their electives in such a way as to show a close relevance to the content of the Translation Practicum and Translation Projects that they plan to carry out. Students may consult the teachers concerned before making the decision.
