Regulations for the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics and Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics

 

1. General
1.1
These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2
In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3 The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics to the award of Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics.
1.4 A student shall complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics or Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics within one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study. Under special circumstances, students may apply to the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences for extension of the maximum period of study, i.e. extension up to one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study.

Entry Requirements
2.1
To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics, and Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics, a student shall have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary education institution, or the equivalent.
 
3.
Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics (PDAELF)
3.1
To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics, a student shall:
 
3.1.1
comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 
3.1.2
comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
 
3.1.3
obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2

For the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied English Linguistics, the University has prescribed that a student must:

 
3.2.1
successfully complete at least 30 credits from the compulsory courses labelled CA in Table 1; and
 
3.2.2
successfully complete 10 credits from the elective courses labelled EA in Table 1.
 
4.
Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics (MAAELF)
4.1
To be eligible for the award of Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics, a student shall:
 
4.1.1
comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 
4.1.2
comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
 
4.1.3
obtain at least 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
4.2
For the Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
 
4.2.1
successfully complete 40 credits from the compulsory courses labelled CA in Table 1; and
 
4.2.2
successfully complete 20 credits from the elective courses labelled EA in Table 1.
