Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology

 

1. General
1.1 These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2 In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
   
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology programme, a student shall normally possess:
  2.1.1 a recognized honours degree, or an equivalent academic or professional qualification; or
  2.1.2 a recognized degree, or an equivalent academic or professional qualification, in computing or related fields*; or
  2.1.3 a recognized degree, or an equivalent academic or professional qualification, in any field, plus at least one year of post-qualification experience in Information Technology**; or
  2.1.4 an academic qualification such as a higher diploma in computing or related fields, plus at least three years of post-qualification experience in Information Technology; or
  2.1.5 an academic qualification such as a higher diploma in any field, plus at least five years of post-qualification experience in Information Technology.

Computing or related fields include Computer Science, Computer Studies, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electronics, Information Engineering, Information Science, Information Technology, Information Systems (or Business Information Systems), Systems Engineering.

Experience in Information Technology is defined as post-qualification experience in computer programming, systems administration, systems analysis, or network administration.
     
3. Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology (PCIT)
3.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology, a student shall:
  3.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  3.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  3.1.3 obtain at least 20 credits in courses at the Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the postgraduate certificate for which notice has been given.
3.2 For the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Technology, the University has prescribed that a student must obtain 20 credits from COMP S800 Information Technology and Software Development.
