Regulations for the Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health, and Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making

1. General
1.1 These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2 In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3 The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making and Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health to the award of Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management.
1.4 A student shall complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making or Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health or Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management within 6 years of first enrolling in the programme.
   
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making, or Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health, or Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management, a student shall have obtained:
  2.1.1 a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in environmental studies, environmental safety, occupational health or relevant subjects, or equivalent qualification; or
  2.1.2 a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in any discipline plus at least 2 years’ experience in safety, occupational health or environmental management or equivalent subject; or
  2.1.3 a Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Science and Technology (PCEST) awarded by the OUHK, or equivalent qualification; or
  2.1.4 a Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Studies (PCES) awarded by the OUHK, or equivalent.
   
3. Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making (PCELDMF) (See Note 2)
3.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making, a student shall:
  3.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  3.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  3.1.3 obtain at least 20 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2 For the Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  3.2.1 successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled B in Table 1.
   
4. Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health (PDSOHF) (See Note 2)
4.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health, a student shall:
  4.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  4.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  4.1.3 obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
4.2 For the Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  4.2.1 successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled A in Table 1.
   
5. Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management (MSCSOHEMF) (See Note 2)
5.1 To be eligible for the award of Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management (MSCSOHEM), a student shall:
  5.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  5.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
  5.1.3 obtain at least 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
5.2 For the Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  5.2.1 successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled A in Table 1; and
  5.2.2 successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled B in Table 1.

Notes:

  1. Successful completion of ENVR S881CW, ENVR S882CW, ENVR S883CW and ENVR S884CW is considered as completion of ENVR S880F.
     
  2. The programmes of Postgraduate Certificate in Environmental Leadership and Decision Making, Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Occupational Health, and Master of Science in Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management has been phased out with effect from 2019 Autumn term. The last conferment of the above programmes will be 2024 Autumn term.
