Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics and Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics

1. General
1.1 These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2 In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3 The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, and Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics to the award of Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics.
1.4 A student shall complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis or Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics or Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics or Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics within six years of first enrolling in the programme.
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, a student shall have obtained:
  2.1.1 a degree, or equivalent professional qualification, in a relevant discipline awarded by a recognized local or overseas institution; or
  2.1.2 a degree, or equivalent professional qualification, in any academic discipline awarded by a recognized local or overseas institution and with adequate training in quantitative anaylsis.
2.2 To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, a student shall have obtained:
  2.2.1

a degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline in Quantitative Science, Investment Science, Engineering, Computer and Technology or related fields from a recognized institutions; or

  2.2.2

a degree, or equivalent, in any academic discipline from a recognized institution plus at least two years working experience in relevant disciplines.

2.3  To enter the Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics or Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, a student shall have obtained:
  2.3.1 a degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline in Quantitative Science, Investment Science, Engineering, Computer and Technology or related fields from a recognized institutions; or
  2.3.2 a degree, or equivalent, in any academic discipline from a recognized institution plus at least two years working experience in relevant disciplines; or
  2.3.3 a Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis awarded by the OUHK, or equivalent; or
  2.3.4 a Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics awarded by the OUHK, or equivalent.
2.4  To enter the Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics through Pathway 1, a student shall have obtained:
  2.4.1 a Master’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant area of decision sciences, information technology or engineering sciences from a tertiary institution recognized by the University.
   
3. Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics (PCCMF) (See Note 2)
3.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, a student shall:
  3.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  3.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  3.1.3 obtain at least 20 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2 For the Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  3.2.1 successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled CM in Table 1.
   
4. Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis (PCQAF) (See Note 2)
4.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, a student shall:
  4.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  4.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  4.1.3 obtain at least 20 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
4.2 For the Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  4.2.1 successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled QA in Table 1.
   
5. Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics (PDQACMF) (See Note 2)
5.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, a student shall:
  5.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  5.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  5.1.3 obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
5.2 For the Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  5.2.1 successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled PD in Table 1.
   
6. Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics (MSCQACMF) (See Note 2)
6.1 To be eligible for the award of the Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, a student shall:
  6.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  6.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  6.1.3 obtain at least 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the master of science degree for which notice has been given.
6.2 For the Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  6.2.1 Students enrolled with the University before 2018 Autumn term must:
    6.2.1.1 successfully complete 40 credits from compulsory courses labelled MC, i.e. MATH S811F, MATH S812F, STAT S801F, and STAT S802F in Table 1; and
    6.2.1.2 successfully complete 10 credits from STAT S821F labelled MP, and obtain 10 credits from elective courses labelled ME in Table 1.
      OR
      successfully complete 20 credits from STAT S822F labelled MP in Table 1.
  6.2.2 Students enrolled with the University in/after 2018 Autumn term must:
    6.2.2.1 successfully complete 40 credits from compulsory courses labelled MC, i.e. MATH S811F, MATH S812F, STAT S801F, and STAT S802F in Table 1; and
    6.2.2.2 successfully complete 20 credits from STAT S822F labelled MP in Table 1.
   
7. Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics (through Pathway 1) (MSCQACMF1) (See Note 2)
7.1 To be eligible for the award of the Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 shall:
  7.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  7.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  7.1.3 obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the master of science degree for which notice has been given.
7.2 For the Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, the University has prescribed that a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 must:
  7.2.1 successfully complete 40 credits from MATH S811F, MATH S812F, STAT S801F, and STAT S802F labelled MC in Table 1.

  2. The programmes of Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, and Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics have been phased out with effect from 2021 Spring term. The University will continue to confer the award of the degree of Postgraduate Certificate in Computational Mathematics, Postgraduate Certificate in Quantitative Analysis, Postgraduate Diploma in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics, and Master of Science in Quantitative Analysis and Computational Mathematics up to December 2025.
