Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration (for students admitted in 2018 Autumn term and thereafter)

 

1. General
1.1 These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates.
1.2 In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
   
1.3 The Regulations Governing the Articulation of Qualifications shall apply for conversion of Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accounting to the award of Master of Business Administration.
2. Entry Requirements
2.1 To enter the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration programme, a student shall normally possess:
  2.1.1 a recognized degree in a non-business area (or its equivalent), plus at least two years of supervisory/managerial experience.
  or    
  2.1.2 a recognized tertiary academic qualification (such as a diploma), plus at least six years of supervisory/managerial experience.
2.2 To enter the Master of Business Administration programme, a student shall normally possess:
  2.2.1 a recognized degree  in a business-related area (or its equivalent), or a qualification equivalent to the OUHK’s PCBA; or
       
  2.2.2 a recognized degree in a non-business area (or its equivalent), plus at least three years of recognized supervisory/managerial experience; or
  2.2.3 a recognized post-secondary qualification at Qualifications Framework Level 4 (or its equivalent), plus at least ten years of supervisory/managerial experience.
2.3 To enter the Master of Business Administration programme through pathway 1, a student shall normally possess:
  2.3.1 a recognized Master’s degree in a business-related area (or its equivalent).
3. Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (PCBA)
3.1 To be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration, a student shall:
  3.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  3.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates; and
  3.1.3 obtain 20 credits from MGT B800 or MGT B880 (labelled CC in Table 1), prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the postgraduate certificate, for which notice has been given.
   
4. Master of Business Administration (MBA) 8
4.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Master of Business Administration, a student shall:
  4.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  4.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
  4.1.3 obtain the following 60 credits prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given:
    4.1.3.1 successfully complete 30 credits from BUS B859 and MGT B820 or MGT B881 (labelled CM in Table 1); and
    4.1.3.2 obtain a further 30 credits from optional courses (labelled OM in Table 1).

4.2

Up to 20 credits awarded by the UK Open University for satisfactory completion of one or more of the courses labelled UKOU in Table 1 may be counted towards the requirements of the MBA programme.
5. Master of Business Administration (through pathway 1) (MBA1) 8
5.1 To be eligible for the award of the degree of Master of Business Administration, a student who entered the programme through pathway 1 shall:
  5.1.1 comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  5.1.2 comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
  5.1.3 obtain the following 40 credits prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given:
    5.1.3.1 successfully complete 30 credits from BUS B859 and MGT B820 or MGT B881 (labelled CM in Table 1); and
    5.1.3.2 obtain a further 10 credits from optional courses (labelled OM in Table 1).

5.2

Up to 20 credits awarded by the UK Open University for satisfactory completion of one or more of the courses labelled UKOU in Table 1 may be counted towards the requirements of the MBA programme.

  1. Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the list of excluded combinations for details.

  3. Students who have enrolled on the MBA programme before October 2001 may have the credits from ACT B867 and/or BUS B885 counted as courses labelled OM towards the MBA degree.

  5. The course code of MKT B890 has been revised as IB B890.  If students have successfully completed MKT B890, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for IB B890.
     
  6. The course code of MKT B891 has been revised as IB B891.  If students have successfully completed MKT B891, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for IB B891.
     
  7. The course code of MKT B893 has been revised as IB B893.  If students have successfully completed MKT B893, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for IB B893.
     
  8. Students admitted to the MBA programme in or before April 2012 were originally under Pathway 1 or Pathway 2 or Pathway 3 (i.e. MBAPATH1 or MBAPATH2 or MBAPATH3). Under the current programme structure, students are regrouped into MBA or MBA1 as follows:
