Regulations for the Master of Arts in Legal Translation
1. General
1.1
These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees.
1.2
In these regulations, definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
1.3 A student shall complete the Master of Arts in Legal Translation within one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study. Under special circumstances, students may apply to the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences for extension of the maximum period of study, i.e. extension up to one year for full-time study or two years for part-time study.

Entry Requirements
2.1
To enter the Master of Arts in Legal Translation, a student shall have obtained a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary education institution, or the equivalent.
 
3.
Master of Arts in Legal Translation (MALTF) (See Note 2)
3.1
To be eligible for the award of the Master of Arts in Legal Translation, a student shall:
 
3.1.1
comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 
3.1.2
comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
 
3.1.3
obtain 60 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations.
3.2

For the Master of Arts in Legal Translation, the University has prescribed that a student must:

 
3.2.1
successfully complete at least 50 credits from the core courses in Table 1; and
 
3.2.2
successfully complete no more than 10 credits from the elective courses in Table 1.

  1. LIBS A825F has been replaced by TRAN A802BF.  If students have successfully completed LIBS A825F, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for TRAN A802BF.
     
  2. The programme of Master of Arts in Legal Translation has been phased out in 2019 Autumn term and its last conferment will be December 2024.
