Regulations for the degree of Doctor of Education (Professional Strand)
 
  

1.General
1.1These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees.
1.2In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.
  
  
2.Entry Requirements
2.1To enter the Doctor of Education (Professional Strand) programme, a student shall be a member of a cohort of applicants from the same school / educational organization, and possess:
 2.1.1A recognized Master’s degree (by research or coursework) in Education or a related area.
   
  
3.Doctor of Education (Professional Strand) (EDDPS)
3.1To be eligible for the award of the degree of Doctor of Education (Professional Strand), a student shall:
 3.1.1comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
 3.1.2comply with the Regulations for the Award of Postgraduate Degrees; and
 3.1.3obtain at least 40 credits of coursework at Postgraduate level and complete a thesis prescribed by the regulations.
3.2For the degree of Doctor of Education (Professional Strand), the University has prescribed that a student must:
 3.2.1obtain at least 40 credits in courses at Postgraduate level prescribed by the regulations; and
 3.2.2successfully complete a thesis at doctoral level.
3.3

For the coursework element of the degree of Doctor of Education (Professional Strand), the University has prescribed that a student shall complete:

EDU E891 Educational Enquiry; and
EDU E990 School-based Directed Studies in Education.

3.4Students must complete the coursework successfully before being allowed to start the thesis; and a satisfactory detailed research proposal is required for further progress on the thesis.
3.5Following the submission of the thesis, a viva voce examination will be conducted by the Award Committee, which will include an External Examiner.
