Regulations for the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature and Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Language and Literature

These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees.

In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature (BACLL)
1. To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature, a student shall:
  a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  c) obtain at least 120 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
  d) obtain at least 100 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations as appropriate to the degree for which notice has been given, including at least 20 credits in courses at Higher level.
2. For the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  a) successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled CC in Table 1 (CHIN A162C, CHIN A163C); and
  b) successfully complete 10 credits from course labelled CCC in Table 1 (CHIN A202C); and
  c) successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled CYF in Table 1 (CHIN A171C*/BUS B190C*, CHIN A172C, CHIN E130C, PTH E150C, CHIN E230C); and
  d) successfully complete 20 credits from courses labelled CYC/CYY in Table 1 (CHIN A240C, CHIN A265C, CHIN A270C, CHIN A273C); and
  e) successfully complete 40 credits from courses labelled CW/CYY/CWH/CYH/CYW/CWW/CHH in Table 1 (CHIN A264C, CHIN A270C, CHIN A273C, CHIN A274C, CHIN A350C, CHIN A360C, CHIN A361C, CHIN A362C, CHIN A366C, CHIN A371C, CHIN A372C), of which at least 20 credits must be gained at Higher level; and
  f) successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled CY/CYM in Table 1 (PTH A200C, TRAN A251C, CHIN A272C); and
  g) successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 120 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.
    * Students can only take either CHIN A171C or BUS B190C to fulfil requirement (c).
Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Language and Literature (BAHCLL)
1. To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Language and Literature, a student shall:
  a) comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
  b) comply with the Regulations for the Award of Undergraduate Degrees; and
  c) obtain at least 160 credits of which no more than 40 credits shall be obtained at Foundation level; and
  d) obtain at least 50 credits in courses at Higher level; and
  e) successfully complete the prescribed programme of studies.
2. For the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Language and Literature, the University has prescribed that a student must:
  a) successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled CC in Table 1 (CHIN A162C, CHIN A163C); and
  b) successfully complete 10 credits from course labelled CCC in Table 1 (CHIN A202C); and
  c) successfully complete 10 credits from courses labelled CYF in Table 1 (CHIN A171C*/BUS B190C*, CHIN A172C, CHIN E130C, PTH E150C, CHIN E230C); and
  d) successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled CYC/CYY/CYM in Table 1 (CHIN A240C, CHIN A265C, CHIN A270C, CHIN A272C, CHIN A273C); and
  e) successfully complete 30 credits from courses labelled CW/CYY/CWW/CY in Table 1 (PTH A200C, TRAN A251C, CHIN A264C, CHIN A270C, CHIN A273C, CHIN A274C, CHIN A362C, CHIN A371C); and
  f) successfully complete 50 credits from courses labelled CYH/CWH/CHH/CYW in Table 1 (CHIN A350C, CHIN A360C, CHIN A361C, CHIN A366C, CHIN A372C); and
    g) successfully complete 20 credits from any Foundation, Middle or Higher level courses offered by the University, provided that, of the total 160 credits, no more than 40 credits are gained at Foundation level.
      * Students can only take either CHIN A171C or BUS B190C to fulfil requirement (c).

Each degree with Honours shall be conferred with a classification of First Class, Second Class (Upper Division), Second Class (Lower Division) or Third Class save that exceptionally a degree may be conferred without classification.

Subject to the requirements of the relevant programme of study, each person on whom an Honours degree is to be conferred shall be assigned to a classification determined by the University according to its regulations.

For the calculation of scores for classification purposes in the degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Chinese Language and Literature, the University has deemed that “Group (a)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher level listed in Table 1, and that “Group (b)” shall consist of the best 40 credits in courses at Higher or Middle level listed in Table 1, where such credits are not taken into account in “Group (a)”. Further, that “X” shall equal one, that is “Group (a)” and “Group (b)” shall be equally weighted. Notes:

  1. Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the list of excluded combinations for details.
     
  2. Students can only take either CHIN A171C or BUS B190C to fulfil requirement (c) above.
     
  3. CHST A202C has been replaced by CHIN A202C. Students who have successfully completed CHST A202C will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of CHIN A202C.
