Aims

This course aims to help students explore essential scientific disciplines in sports and understand their roles and applications in teams and organisations. Students will inspect the unique expertise in each discipline and discover their interdependency in achieving sports success. This new insight will foster understanding of the foundation and functions of science in sports and achieve effective sports management.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Exploring science and coaching
  • Understanding body in action
  • Monitoring people and performance in sport and fitness

Learning support

There will be four two-hour online lectures, 16 one-hour online surgeries and two six-hour compulsory face-to-face day schools.

Assessment

There will be three written assignments and one examination. Assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
