Aims

SOSC 1021AED Psychology for Everyday Life aims to provide students with:

  • the fundamental principles of psychology for adjustment and of the psychological topics relevant to their personal development; and
  • an experience of learning psychology that facilitates their further understanding of psychology.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Self-understanding
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Friendship and love
  • Career and work
  • Psychology and physical health

Learning support

  • Teaching and learning
    The custom textbook and the Study Guide, together with five face-to-face tutorials and one day school, are the main strategies to help students achieve the learning outcomes. Students can also consult the tutor by phone about the course content and their performance within the designated hours. The overall course delivery will be monitored by the Course Coordinator as well.
  • Online support
    The Online Learning Environment (OLE), being an additional support, gives students online access to the electronic copies of the course materials, Study Guide, presentation schedule and assignments, and admits e-submission of assignments. Although participation is optional, students are also encouraged to take part in the Discussion Board therein to enhance their self-study and learning.

Assessment

Students' performance will be evaluated by continuous assessment only. Students will choose and complete 3 out of 5 assignments (Assignments 1 to 5). Each assignment evaluates materials covered in each unit of the course, and accounts for 33.3% of the subject total.

Online requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
