Enrolment Requirement(s)

Only students in the Master of Science in Diagnostic Ultrasonography / Postgraduate Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasonography programme may enrol in this course.

Aims

This course aims to provide students with a deep dive into imaging techniques and the identification of normal and pathological conditions in abdominal and pelvic organs. By the end of the course, students will have developed the proficiency and professional competence required to evaluate these structures accurately using ultrasound technology.

Contents

This course covers the following topics:

  • Imaging of the hepatobiliary system
  • Imaging of the spleen, pancreas and adrenals
  • Imaging of the GI tract, peritoneum and retroperitoneum
  • Imaging of the urinary system
  • Imaging of the pelvis

Learning support

A set of books, supplementary video lectures, and readings will be provided to students.  There will be five four-hour face-to-face interactive tutorials on Saturday afternoons.  An online platform, the Online Learning Environment (OLE), is available for students to manage their learning materials as well as to interact with teachers and classmates.

Assessment

There will be twelve self-tests, two written assignments, and two 3-hour end-of-term written examinations for this course.  The assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
