Aims

This course explores how psychology offers insights into human behaviours and mental processes. It aims to guide students to master the major concepts, theories and research of psychology and apply them to daily life where appropriate.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction: Basic concepts and research methods in psychology
  • Biological perspectives in psychology: The brain and senses
  • Learning
  • Memory
  • Lifespan development
  • Motivation and emotion
  • Personality
  • Social psychology
  • Stress, coping, and well-being
  • Psychological disorders and therapies

Learning support

There will be ten tutorials and three day schools.

Assessment

This course is assessed by continuous assessment, taking up 100% of the course grade. Five summative assignments are included. The best four, weighting 25% each, would be counted towards the course grade. No examination is required for this course.

Online requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
