Aims

PSYC 2032AED Introduction to Abnormal Psychology aims to introduce students to various types of psychological disorders falling under psychiatric nomenclature and other behavioural models, and discuss related theories and research concerning the origin, diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.

Contents

  • Introduction to abnormality
  • Anxiety, mood disorders and suicide
  • Schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Substance use and gambling disorders

Learning support

There will be five face-to-face tutorials and two day schools.

Assessment

Students' performance is assessed by continuous assessment, which accounts for 100% of the course grade. There are three compulsory assignments for the course. Students will be expected to apply concepts, principles and research findings acquired during the course when completing assignments.

Online Requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
