Aims

This course aims to equip students with diverse research knowledge and skills crucial for analysing research methods and findings, and evaluating evidence-based practices. Students will be guided to critically appraise the quality of published articles, and to evaluate the use of research evidence in informing best practices.

Contents

Overview of the research process
Formulation of research problems, questions and hypotheses
Retrieval and appraisal of extant literature
The two major paradigms of research and their designs
Quantitative: Experimental, quasi-experimental and non-experimental designs
Qualitative: Grounded theory, phenomenology and ethnography
Advanced research methods
Mixed methods research and systematic reviews
Principles of sampling, collecting and analysing data
Role of research in guiding evidence-based practice
