Enrolment Requirement(s)

Only students in the Master of Science in Diagnostic Ultrasonography / Postgraduate Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasonography programme may enrol in this course.

Aims

This course aims to equip students with diverse research knowledge and skills crucial for analysing research methods and findings, and evaluating evidence-based practices. Students will be guided to critically appraise the quality of published articles and to evaluate the use of research evidence in informing best practices.

Contents

This course covers the following topics:

  • Overview of the research process
  • Formulation of research problems, questions and hypotheses
  • Retrieval and appraisal of extant literature
  • Two major paradigms of research and their designs
  • Advanced research methods and other types of research
  • Principles of sampling, collecting, analysing and interpreting data
  • Role of research in guiding evidence-based practice

Learning support

There will be 26 hours of face-to-face lectures, five hours of tutorials, six hours of seminars, and two hours of workshops.

Assessment

There will be continuous assessment, including a group presentation and an individual paper.
