NURS 1403NED is a 12 credit-unit, three-term 1000-level course for students seeking a Bachelor of Nursing Studies (Mental Health Care).  Through 15 systematically organised study units, students explore the nursing management of clients with mental disorders.  The course provides a theoretical platform for understanding how knowledge from psychiatry, psychology, and nursing integrates to support holistic client care.

Enrolment Requirement(s)

Only students in the Bachelor of Nursing Studies (Mental Health Care) (BNSMHC) programme may enrol in NURS 1403NED. Students are required to take this course with NURS 1310NED.

Aims

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge in the nursing process, historical development and models of psychiatric nursing, treatments of mental disorders, nursing management of child and adolescent clients, psychogeriatric clients, clients with learning disabilities, and clients in rehabilitation journey.

Learning support

There will be 42 hours of face-to-face lectures, 34 hours of face-to-face tutorials, and 525 self-study hours. An online platform, the Online Learning Environment (OLE), is available for students to manage their learning materials as well as to interact with teachers and classmates.

To meet the requirements of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, students must have an attendance rate of 90% or above for this course.

Assessment

The assessment for this course consists of four assignments and a final examination. Each assignment is worth 12.5% of the total course marks, and together the four assignments account for 50% of the overall course assessment. The final in-person written examination accounts for 50% of the total course marks. Students must pass both the continuous assessment and the examination to pass the course.

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
