NURS 1401NED Nursing Therapeutics: General Health Care (I) is one of the core courses of the BNSGHC programme.

Enrolment Requirement(s)

Only students in the Bachelor of Nursing Studies (General Health Care) (BNSGHC) programme may enrol in NURS 1401NED. Students are required to take this course with NURS 1310NED.

Aims

This course aims to equip students with essential knowledge and intervention skills for effective and professional practices in general medical and surgical clinical settings.

Contents

This course consists of 15 units, covering:

  • The nursing process and health assessment
  • Nursing care for clients with respiratory disorders
  • Nursing care for clients with cardiovascular disorders
  • Nursing care for clients with digestive disorders
  • Perioperative and anaesthetic nursing
  • Nursing care for clients with endocrine disorders
  • Nursing care for clients with haematological and lymphatic disorders
  • Nursing care for clients with neurological disorders
  • Nursing care for clients with musculoskeletal disorders

Learning support

There will be 32 hours of face-to-face lectures, 30 hours of face-to-face tutorials, 12 hours of laboratory sessions, and 540 self-study hours.  An online platform, the Online Learning Environment (OLE), is available for students to manage their learning materials as well as to interact with teachers and classmates.

To meet the requirements of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong, students must have an attendance rate of 90% or above for this course.

Assessment

There will be four written assignments for continuous assessment and a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
