You are advised to have already studied at least one foundation-level course.

Aims
This course aims to acquaint learners with the different areas of law that are usually applicable in the general business environment of Hong Kong. It introduces the development of Hong Kong law and its present legal system. It also provides a general framework on various aspects of commercial law, in particular the law of contract, the law of tort and the law governing different types of business organizations.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Legal system of the Hong Kong SAR
  • Contract law
  • Law of tort
  • Business organizations

Learning support
There will be four three-hour tutorials.

Assessment
There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
