Aims
The course aims to provide students with a contemporary overview of the management and strategies of international business. It equips students with the knowledge and tools which underpin international business success. Additionally, the course reinforces and integrates students' existing knowledge of strategy and functional management, and extends this in an international context. Finally, the course enlightens students on the contemporary challenges and issues faced by international managers and how to manage these issues strategically.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • The nature and challenges of international business and management
  • Dynamic forces of international business environment I: political and trade forces
  • Dynamic forces of international business environment II: financial and cultural forces
  • Formulating international management strategies
  • Implementing international management strategies
  • International functional management I: marketing and operations
  • International functional management II: human resources
  • Global leadership
  • International organizational design, decision making and control
  • Current issues of international management

Learning support
There will be ten two-hour tutorials and two three-hour surgeries.

Assessment
There are three assignments, three online quizzes and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
