Aims

This course aims to help students to develop a broad understanding of Chinese international relations (IR) from historical and political perspectives. It explores how China has re-emerged as a major great power in the 21st century by investigating transformation in its international relations since the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. By engaging students in the debates on China's rise, its foreign policy, diplomatic relations, and ideologies and values involved, this course develops students' ability to critically analyse contemporary issues in Chinese IR.
