Aims

This course has three aims. Firstly, the selection of set texts (mostly Anglophone children's literature, complemented with texts from other cultures and languages) introduces students to a broad scope of texts which are seen to be suitable for children and young people up to around the age of 18. Moreover, the course introduces students to a range of literary theories, enabling them to analyse children's literature and the idea of childhood critically. Finally, with a broadened and critical understanding of various children's literature texts, students will become more culturally resourceful and appreciative L2 readers of English.
