Aims
The course aims to:

  • Equip students to teach Liberal Studies in secondary schools;

  • Engage students in experiencing learning through the Liberal Studies approach;

  • Encourage students to transform this learning experience into teaching practices through reflection and group interaction.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Curriculum principles in Liberal Studies

  • Learning through enquiry

  • Developing yourself as a learner of Liberal Studies

  • Liberal Studies in action

  • Assessment in Liberal Studies

  • Managing the implementation of Liberal Studies

Learning support
This course involves 600 study hours. There will be one 1.5 hour lecture, 13 two-hour tutorials, one two-hour day school and two surgeries.

The day school will take place in the afternoon or evening of a weekend.

Online requirement
This is an online course and requires access to the Internet. Students need to use the Online Learning Environment (OLE) for reading and discussion and one assignment requires participation in online activities through the OLE.

Assessment
There will be five assignments and a final examination. Except for some designated assignments, students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
