Compulsory Prerequisite(s)

Completed at least 30 credit-units from the Electronics programme.

Aims

This course aims to cultivate students’ ability to use interactive multimedia technologies and innovative educational tools to design and develop classroom teaching activities that can stimulate learners’ active participation. Through learning relevant theoretical knowledge and practical operation, students will be able to utilise various digital media and educational technologies to create classroom teaching design plans that promote teacher–student interaction and enhance learner engagement, thereby preparing them for future applications of innovative technologies in the field of education.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  1. understand and analyse the role and application value of interactive multimedia technologies and innovative educational tools in teaching;
  2. acquire skills for producing different digital media and their educational applications;
  3. design interactive multimedia classroom activities to enhance learning interactivity and participation; and
  4. evaluate and select appropriate digital media and educational technology tools for different teaching contexts.

Learning support

This course is taught in a face-to-face mode, guiding students to master the theories and principles of interactive multimedia instructional design, and the application of educational innovation technology tools through lectures, discussions and computer skills practice.

There will be 13 hours of lectures and 26 hours of tutorials.

Assessment

The assessment in this course consists of two assignments (100%).

Online requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment

A PC-compatible computer ready for connecting to the Internet is essential. The minimum configuration of the computer is:

  • PC with an x86 CPU or equivalent
  • 1GB RAM
  • Hard disk
  • Sound card with speakers

You need to be familiar with the basic use of a computer including keyboard, mouse and word processing software. Experience in using email, the Internet and the World Wide Web is also essential.

Software

You should have Windows with Microsoft Word. Other software will be downloaded from the Internet. You may need to use OpenOffice to prepare assignment answers.
