ECON A232 introduces the principles of macroeconomics and demonstrates how these principles apply to current economic issues around the world. The course covers the important topics in macroeconomics and relates them to the Hong Kong economy where appropriate.

You are advised to have already studied a foundation economics course before attempting this course.

Aims
This course aims to provide students with an introduction to the concepts in macroeconomics needed to understand current economic and business issues. It provides practice in applying economic analysis and is designed to improve learners' understanding of how the Hong Kong economy operates.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • National income accounting
  • Long-run economic performance — real side and financial side
  • Short-run economic fluctuations — business cycle
  • Macroeconomics of open economies

Learning support
There will be eight two-hour tutorials.

Assessment
There will be two assignments and a final examination. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
