Aims
The course aims to provide learners with a sound foundation in the legal framework of incorporating, maintaining and dissolving a company in Hong Kong. It focuses on the application of relevant theories to secretarial practices and compliance faced by a company secretary in the commercial field or by a company secretarial firm. The course also provides students with a general understanding of employment law and labour-related legislation in Hong Kong.

Contents
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • critically analyse and apply the statutory and/or non-statutory requirements with respect to activities conducted by organizations/companies in Hong Kong;
  • evaluate the roles, functions and responsibilities of company officers, management, shareholders and stakeholders; and
  • critically evaluate the importance of boardroom dynamics and its implementation in enhancing board performance.

Learning support
There will be seven three-hour tutorials and one six-hour day school.

Assessment
There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use Microsoft Word to prepare the assignments and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment
Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.

There are no set books for this course, but students will receive access to HKCGI online study material as part of the course.
