Aims

This course aims to survey the divergence between universal conservation principles and local applications from an Asian perspective. It focuses on the conservation problems, management and operating models that are unique to Asian countries. The underlying causes and institutional constraints which have contributed to the differentiation in local practices will also be addressed.

  3. Conservation realities in Greater China, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia
  4. Urban conservation practices in East and Southeast Asia
  5. Heritage management in Taiwan, Macau and mainland China
  6. Commercialisation and conservation financing
  7. Cultural tourism and built-heritage conservation
  8. Representation and conservation

Learning support

Face-to-face lectures will be conducted in this course.

Assessment

Two assignments (60%) and one examination (40%) will be included in this course.

Online requirement

Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
