Course Coordinator: Dr Matthew Yeung, BSc, MSc (Herts); PhD (Nottingham)

Compulsory prerequisite(s)
You are required to have already completed BUS B950.

Aims
The course is designed to enable students to develop and refine a unique research proposal suitable for investigation at the Doctoral level.

Contents
The course has no conventional course materials. During tutorials, students are expected to review and discuss the philosophy of research in business, and the means by which researchers identify issues and acquire knowledge in their respective business disciplines. The process of planning and designing a research project will also be revisited. Students are then required to conduct an in-depth reading programme at an advanced level in the field of research in which they wish to specialize for the thesis. The course requires students to become exceptionally familiar with the literature in their respective field of studies, to thoroughly understand the strengths and weaknesses of methodologies, and last but definitely not least, to understand the processes by which knowledge in their respective fields of research has been advanced.

Learning support
There will be ten three-hour tutorials.

Assessment
There will be three written assignments and an oral presentation (compulsory assignment). Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
