Aims

The course aims to provide students with knowledge and understanding of different forms of innovative and entrepreneurial practice around the world and at different scales, including technological and social innovation, commercial and social enterprise, and independent and corporate entrepreneurship. It draws on relevant research evidence, theories, concepts and frameworks, and addresses the relationship between innovation and entrepreneurship at a conceptual and practical level.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Understanding innovation and entrepreneurship
  • Idea generation and opportunity identification
  • Business concepts to models and plans
  • International context in innovation and entrepreneurship
  • New venture challenge

Learning support

There will be eight two-hour online lectures, 32 one-hour online surgeries, and four six-hour compulsory face-to-face day schools. The dates for the compulsory face-to-face day school(s) are as follows:

Assessment

There are online lecture polls, four assignments, one oral presentation (compulsory assignment) and four application-based assessments conducted during compulsory face-to-face day schools. Assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Equipment

Students will need access to a personal computer with an Internet connection.
