Aims
This course aims to raise students' awareness of the ethical responsibilities of professional accountants and the ways to identify and resolve conflicts relating to ethical issues throughout their career. In addition, the course aims at enhancing students' understanding in the roles of professional accountants in achieving effective corporate governance and in providing information about the social and economic performance of the organisation.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Accounting and society
  • Ethics
  • Governance concepts
  • Governance in practice
  • Corporate accountability

Contact hours
Normally three hours per week.

Assessment
There is one assignment, compulsory oral presentation, class participation and the CPA Australia/External examination. The assignment accounts for 40% of the total course score, the compulsory oral presentation accounts for 20% of the total course score, the class participation accounts for 10% of the total course score and the CPA Australia/External examination accounts for 30% of the total course score. The assignment is individual assignment. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
