You are advised to have already studied BUS B272, BUS B270 or BUS B273, BUS B171 and BUS B172, ACT B211 and ACT B212 (or ACT B210) and ACT B313 (or ACT B303).

Aims
This course aims to provide learners with advanced knowledge about management accounting concepts and practices. It focuses on how financial and non-financial information help managers in making strategic and operating decisions, cost allocation, management controls and performance measurement.

Contents
The course covers the following topics:

  • Cost information for decision-making
  • Operational control
  • Cost allocation in practice
  • Strategy and quality management
  • Management control systems and performance management

Learning support
There will be five two-hour tutorials and one two-hour surgery.

Assessment
There are two assignments and one examination. Students must use word processing software (such as Microsoft Word) to prepare the assignments, and submit the assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).

Software
Access to a personal computer loaded with Microsoft Excel is highly recommended.
