Aims

The course aims to introduce to learners the main principles and purposes of accounting. It covers the essentials of financial and management accounting as well as the basic tools and techniques required for both types of accounting.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to accounting
  • Essential of double-entry bookkeeping
  • Accrual accounting concepts
  • Control over the ledgers
  • Preparing financial statements
  • Essentials of cost and management accounting
  • Management accounting applications

Learning support

There will be four two-hour online lectures, 16 one-hour online surgeries, and two six-hour compulsory face-to-face day schools. The dates for the compulsory face-to-face day school(s) are as follows:

Assessment

There are two assignments and one examination. Assignments should be prepared with Microsoft Word and submitted to Turnitin for plagiarism checking via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
