Aims

This course aims to:

  1. develop students' understanding of the importance and principles of symptom management in the context of extensive end-of-life care for different age groups; and
  2. equip students with the knowledge necessary for symptom management in end-of-life care for patients of different age groups.

Contents

  1. Importance and principles of integrative symptom management in extensive end-of-life care for different age groups
  2. Prevalence of symptoms in advanced diseases on different age groups
  3. Client-centred plan of care: prioritisation and goals of care
  4. Causes, pathophysiology, assessments and interventions of common symptoms
  5. Complementary and alternative therapies, such as traditional Chinese medicine, aromatherapy, music and art therapy on symptom management
  6. Interdisciplinary team approach in integrative symptom management on different age groups
  7. Special considerations in community setting and pediatric patients
