Aims

This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to undertake individual research in applied English linguistics. It enables students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in previous courses as they study in depth a topic of their interest. Approval is required to take this course.

Contents

The course covers primarily the following topics:

Identifying a research topic
Conducting a literature search and formulating research questions
Developing a research design
Collecting and analysing data
Interpreting findings
Writing up a dissertation

Learning Support

Supervision sessions will be conducted face-to-face.

Assessment

There are two components: presentation (20%) and dissertation (80%).

Online requirement

Students are required to submit the coursework via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
