Aims

The course aims to introduce key principles, theories and techniques essential for effective art gallery and museum management. It will cover the cultural and social aspects of museum studies as well as practical knowledge of arts administration including curatorial planning and exhibition design, audience development and arts marketing. Contemporary issues and challenges for museum management and the ecology of art gallery and museum will also be examined.

  3. Key principles, practices and techniques of art management
  4. Curation and organisation of art projects, exhibitions and activities
  5. Critical issues and challenges for art gallery and museum
  6. The policy aspect of museum and its implications for culture and public life
  7. The ecology of art gallery and museum in Hong Kong and overseas

Learning support

A series of lectures and seminars, case studies, group discussions, field visit and student presentations are the main teaching and learning components for this course.

Assessment

Assessment is based on students' performance in Continuous Assessment including (1) class participation, (2) term project and presentation, and (3) final paper and oral presentation. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
