Aims

The course aims to use economic theories and perspectives to analyse issues related to tourism at micro and macro levels. The course will equip the students with the major concepts and theories of tourism economics and apply those to analyse issues such as the demand and supply of tourism, the impact of tourism on economic growth and development, as well as the role of government in promoting tourism.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  1. Demand and supply of tourism services
  2. Impact of tourism on economic growth and development
  3. Cost and benefits of tourism to the host country
  4. Market structures of the tourism industry
  5. Political economy of tourism

Assessment

There will be assignments, projects and examination for the course. Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
