The Student Affairs Office has prepared a lineup of musical shows by students and guests, including talented musician Kajeng Wong and national beatboxing champion Heartgrey this month. Check out the programme on SAO's Facebook page.

Mr Franklin Lam, founder of independent non-profitable Hong Kong-focused public policy research organization HKGolden50, will speak about 'Hong Kong's Next Five Years — Make or Break Time' on 27 Oct (Fri).

Held on 13 Oct (Fri), the lecture takes its title from Prof. Yeung Yue-man's latest work, the last in a trilogy. Prof. Yeung will discuss how the globalizing world develops in an interconnected manner using pictures selected from among the 150 collected in the book.

A seminar and a workshop will be given by Prof. Michaela Mahlberg from the University of Birmingham on 24 Oct (Tue).

The morning seminar will use literary, historical and socio-cultural examples to illustrate the potential of corpus linguistics for research across disciplines, and demonstrate how corpus software can facilitate the research of collocation, a key corpus linguistic concept that can be applied to further interdisciplinary research.


The afternoon workshop will focus on the challenges and practical considerations of designing interdisciplinary corpus research, with examples from literary studies and cognitive poetics, psycholinguistics and statistics. The use of corpus software will also be discussed.

The symposium on 27 Oct (Fri), organized by our IROPINE and co-organized by the Institute of Educational Research of The Open University of China (OUC), features keynotes by renowned scholars to present the latest developments of open education, technology-enhanced learning and learning analytics. OUHK and OUC academics will also share their research findings and innovative practices.

The Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture has invited renowned Cantonese opera musician Mr Chu Hing-cheung to introduce the art, alongside guest host Mr Wong Sing-chuen and guest performer Mr Wong Sing-kwan on 18 Nov (Sat).


The IIBG is organizing an international business conference on the theme of 'Competing in an Innovation-Driven Global Economy: Institutions, Infrastructures, and Organization Design' from 13–15 Dec (Wed–Fri). Early-bird registration open until 16 Oct (Mon).

On 4 Nov (Sat) afternoon, seminars will be held, introducing the University's full-time undergraduate programmes, admission strategies and information on students' career development. HKDSE students, teachers, parents and the public are welcome to join.

Animation graduates' short film nominated for Taipei's Golden Horse

After winning the Digicon6 ASIA – HK 2017 Audience Choice Award, the FYP of animation and visual effects graduates Shek Ka-Chun, Wong Chun-long and Wong Tsz-ying, Losing Sight of a Longed Place, was nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 54th Golden Horse Awards.
