Aims
The course aims to develop students' understanding of psychological approaches to essential personnel strategies including assessment, selection and staff development. Through the course, students will acquire comprehensive knowledge of the principles, theories and recent research findings in areas of work psychology that benefit human resources management.

Fundamentals of industrial psychology

  • Introduction to applied psychology for the workplace

Personnel selection

  • Conceptual issues in staffing decisions
  • Personnel selection in practice

Personnel assessment

  • Individual differences and assessment
  • Assessment in practice
  • Performance measurement and management

Personnel training and development

  • Foundations of training and learning
  • Training designs and methods

Learning Support
Lectures and interactive discussions. Weekly lectures of a total of 25 hours will be conducted to achieve the learning outcomes of this one-semester course. Whilst lectures can impart the perspectives, concepts, theories and new research findings systematically to students, students are encouraged to participate actively in class discussions to consolidate and critically evaluate the materials.

Online Learning Environment (OLE). The OLE supports students' learning with its resourceful library of lecture notes, supplementary readings and hyperlinks to useful websites. The Discussion Board on the platform also facilitates communication among students and instructors about their ideas, reflections, difficulties and solutions.

Assessment
Course assessment is made by continuous assessment (50%) and final examination (50%). Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
