Important notes
This course will be taught via face-to-face mode. Lectures or tutorials will be scheduled on weekday evenings. There may be some field trips on weekdays or Saturdays.

This is a five-credit, Master's-level course in the Master of Arts in Cultural and Heritage Tourism programme. The course surveys the relationship between heritage and tourism by examining the concepts, issues, and trends in heritage tourism.

Aims
This course aims to introduce students to the notion of cultural heritage and its relationship to tourism. The course will account for the concepts, issues, and trends in cultural tourism and heritage protection. The main themes to be discussed include the conceptualization, recognition and conservation of tangible and intangible assets, the source and nature of tourist contact, the dynamics in and institutionalization of heritage preservation regimes and standards, and the impacts of cultural tourism on the environment and localities.

Contact hours
Normally three hours per week.

Assessment
There will be two assignments (60%) and an examination (40%). Students are required to submit assignments via the Online Learning Environment (OLE).
