Regulations for the Higher Diploma in Economics, Diploma in Economics

These regulations are made under paragraphs 1 to 4 of the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees).

In these regulations definitions shall apply as in the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications and in the Interpretation Section of the Academic Rules and Regulations.

Higher Diploma in Economics (HDEC)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the Higher Diploma in Economics, a student shall:
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications(Sub-degrees); and
	c)	obtain at least 90 credits* in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 10 credits at Higher level.
	*	Of the 90 credits required for the attainment of the Higher Diploma, students can complete up to 30 credits of courses in a language of instruction other than English.
2.	For the Higher Diploma in Economics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
	a)	obtain at least 5 credits from courses labelled SF in Table 1; and
	b)	obtain 30 credits from courses labelled SC and MF in Table 1; i.e.
		(i)	10 credits from ECON A230/ECON A230C; and
			OR
			10 credits from both ECON A231/ECON A231C and ECON A232/ECON A232C; and
		(ii)	10 credits from MATH S112/MATH S122;
			or 10 credits from BUS B170 or BUS B273;
			or 10 credits from both BUS B171 and BUS B172/BUS B272; and
		(iii)	10 credits from ECON A301 or 10 credits from both ECON A311 and ECON A312; and
	c)	obtain 40 credits from courses labelled PF, SM and SH in Table 1 other than those taken in fulfilment of (b) above; and
	d)	complete additional courses labelled SF, PF, BM*, SM and SH in Table 1 to obtain the total of 90 credits required for the award.
	* Students who have successsfully completed FIN B382/FIN B400 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of FIN B280 and a 5-credit course labelled BM.


Diploma in Economics (DEC)
1.	To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Economics, a student shall:
	a)	comply with the Regulations for Admission, Registration and Maintenance of Status; and
	b)	comply with the Regulations for the Award of Sub-degree Qualifications (Sub-degrees); and
	c)	obtain at least 60 credits in courses prescribed by the regulations including at least 20 credits at Middle level.
2.	For the Diploma in Economics, the University has prescribed that a student must:
	a)	obtain at least 5 credits from courses labelled SF and MF in Table 1; and
	b)	obtain 10 credits from courses labelled SC in Table 1; i.e.
		10 credits from ECON A230/ECON A230C; and
		OR
		10 credits from both ECON A231/ECON A231C and ECON A232/ECON A232C; and
	c)	obtain 30 credits from courses labelled PF, SM and SH in Table 1; and
	d)	complete additional courses labelled SF, MF, PF, BM, SM and SH in Table 1 to obtain the total of 60 credits* required for the award.
	* Students who have successfully completed FIN B382/FIN B400 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of FIN B280 and a 5-credit course labelled BM.
	** Of the 60 credits required for the attainment of the Diploma, students can complete up to 20 credits of courses in a language of instruction other than English.

Notes:

Students may have either ENGL A100/ENGL A101 or BUS B100, MATH S112/MATH S122 or BUS B170 or BUS B171 and BUS B172/BUS B272 or BUS B273, and IT L150/IT E150 or BIS B220/BIS B121/BIS B123 to fulfil the requirements for the diploma or higher diploma.
Courses form excluded combinations with other courses. Only one of the courses of the excluded combinations can count towards an OUHK award. Students should refer to the list of excluded combinations for details.
Courses no longer available.
Students who have successfully completed BUS B170 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of both BUS B171 and BUS B172, or both BUS B171 and BUS B272. Also, BUS B171 and BUS B272 have been combined into BUS B273. If students have successfully completed BUS B171 and BUS B272, they are deemed to have satisfied the requirements for BUS B273.
ACT B211 and ACT B212 have been combined into ACT B210. Students who have successfully completed ACT B211 and ACT B212 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ACT B210.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A230 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A231 and ECON A232.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A230C will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A231C and ECON A232C.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A301 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A311 and ECON A312.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A302 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A313 and ECON A314.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A303 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A315 and ECON A316.
Students who have successfully completed BIS B220/BIS B121 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of BIS B123.
Students who have successfully completed ECON A307 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of ECON A317 and ECON A318.
Students who have successfully completed BIS B318 will be deemed to have satisfied the requirements of BIS B316 and BIS B317.
