Eight Tastes of Life:

Sharing recipes, preserving memories

A cookbook authored by HKMU students has just been published and added to the Library's Student Works Repository!

Titled Eight Tastes of Life, this 60-page cookbook was written by the “Meeting Us” Elderly Caring Student Team as part of the Me&U Community Caring Programme launched by the Student Affairs Office. Through home visits and cooking activities, the students connected with five older adults, gathering their cherished family recipes and the stories behind them. Organised around four themes — gathering, healing, memory and family — the book reveals the various flavours of these elders' life stories.

This student community engagement project is a collaboration between HKMU and the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Lok Man Alice Kwok Integrated Service Centre, aimed at fostering intergenerational harmony. To celebrate the completion of the cookbook, the students hosted a launch event, welcoming 20 older adults, including the interviewees, along with their families and neighbours. The event featured an introduction to the cookbook's contents, as well as engagement activities designed to raise participants' awareness of dementia.
