Enrolment Requirement(s)

This is one of the compulsory courses of the following programmes:

  • Bachelor of Language Studies (English) (Hons) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary); and
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary).

To enroll in this course, students must meet the entry requirements of the above programmes.

Moreover, students in the Bachelor of Language Studies (English) with Honours and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary) programme who intend to enroll in this course must have completed all required 1000-, 2000-, 3000-, and 4000-level courses.

Aims

This course aims to develop in students the knowledge and understanding of current developments in English language teaching at primary level, as well as their capability to teach effectively through reflecting on theory and practice.

Contents

Unit 1: Action research

Unit 2: Planning to teach

Unit 3: Using and developing teaching resources

Unit 4: Language arts and language across the curriculum

Learning Support

There are five two-hour tutorials and two two-hour day schools, which add up to 14 contact hours in this course.

Assessment

Course assessment includes assignments (40%) and teaching practice assessment (60%).

Online Requirement

Students may be required to refer to the Online Learning Environment (OLE) and relevant websites. Except for some designated assignments, students are required to submit assignments via the OLE.
