Aims

The course aims to cultivate students' skill in developing mindfulness. Students will learn and practise mindfulness to develop non-judgemental and non-reactive awareness and loving-kindness towards difficult experiences, thoughts, emotions and sensations. It can also support students to bring loving-kindness to themselves with a state of warm and connected presence during difficult moments.

Contents

The course covers the following topics:

  • Mapping of the mind: The dynamic ever-changing nature of the mind
  • Discovering mindfulness: The being and knowing
  • Awakening from autopilot and keeping the body in mind
  • Gathering the scattered mind and practicing mindfulness
  • Recognising reactivity; developing loving-kindness
  • Self-compassion and discovering compassionate voice
  • Living deeply
  • Meeting difficult emotions and exploring challenging relationships
  • Embracing life
  • Trends of mindfulness-based interventions and its application in end-of-life care

Lectures, guided practices and tutorials

Assessment

Continuous assessment includes a group presentation and an individual reflective paper.
Electronic submission of assignments is allowed.
