A free Wi-Fi service to OUHK alumni is now available inside OUHK's campuses. Alumni come back to OUHK campus visiting or attending an event can connect his/her device to Internet wirelessly.

To facilitate the free Internet surfing to public and visitors in Hong Kong, OUHK has joined the "Wi-Fi.HK" scheme which is greatly promoted by Hong Kong Government, and SSID Wi-Fi.HK via OUHK is now announced within OUHK WLAN to provide this free service. The SSID can be located within public area of OUHK venues.

Wi-Fi service in OCLC (OUHK-CITA Learning Centre) has been upgraded to support newer Wi-Fi standard IEEE 802.11ac. After the upgrade practice, the performance to serve mobile devices on this site is significantly enhanced.

To provide you with a more secure Wi-Fi environment for wireless network connection when you are using your own equipment, ITU is going to upgrade our digital certificate authentication from using 1024 bit to 2048 bit during 13-15 April 2011.

WiFi service is now extended to cover OUHK Course Materials Distribution Centre (Kwun Tong CMDC).

The University-wide WiFi services is completed.
The service is widely available in main campus, HPLC and ILC including
classrooms, self-study rooms, lecture theaters, library, laboratories, meeting
rooms, staff offices and all other public areas. It is planned to cover LiPACE
Office and CMDC by first half of 2009. The upgrade can bring convenience in
accessing our online computer systems anywhere anytime.

Backed by popular demand and in order to provide WiFi access before the examination period, the University has made special arrangement to provide the services in self-study rooms and library area as specified below. The service is expected to be available beginning from 11/12 (Thu) and will be completed by 12/12 (Fri) in the following sequence (Table 1). On the other hand, some of the existing locations (Table 2) will be temporarily suspended until the University-wide WiFi service is completed (target by end of December).

Further to the enhancement of Wi-Fi services outside campus, a joint collaboration from major Hong Kong universities with Y5Zone has been made that active students, staff and tutors of the participating universities can enjoy free Wi-Fi services at Y5Zone hotspots. Similar to existing Wi-Fi hotspot services provided by CSL, OUHK users can access Internet with their Wi-Fi devices after authenticating their credentials with the home University infrastructure. Updated locations of Y5Zone Wi-Fi hotspots can be found under Hotspot Locator in : http://www.y5zone.com

More OS support : the most recent version Windows version - Vista is now supported by OUHK Wireless LAN infrastructure. Both modes of authentication are available (Captive Portal and WPA), users can refer to Configuration to setup their Vista-based notebook PCs.
About eduroam : For the eduroam services, there are more member institutions to join in : Hong Kong University ; Hong Kong Institute of Education(May-2007); City University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University (July-2007). This means that their staff and full-time students can use the Wi-Fi facilities of the eduroam member institutions after authenticating with the credentials of their home Universities.

Wifi now widely available at OUHK. From end of January until late February, more WiFi access points will be installed to cover all the areas (except offices and some parts of the library) at the Homantin campus, Homantin Plaza Learning Centre and Island Learning Centre. connection by encrypting all network traffic.
is now available to all OUHK users. It provides a convenient wireless access while visiting overseas universities. With eduroam, students and staff members of an institution, can make use of the credentials provided by their institution to logon the Wireless Network of another institution, who is also a member of eduroam. When logging into the network at another institution, a user's credentials will be sent to his/her home institution for verification. If the information is correct, the user will then be allowed to logon the network. Click here for more information on eduroam and its member list.
