Q.1 Who can use HKMU wireless network ?
HKMU wireless LAN is implemented for providing services to following roles of users :
staff / tutors whom possess a valid HKMU email account and also have created own Single Password
students whom have enrolled course at current semester and also have created own Single Password
For student to create Single Password,
web-based utility can be used as follow:

According to current policy, the above roles of
users are excluded from the eligible access list to HKMU WLAN. It is
designed that students must have enrolled course(s) at current semester and with
Single Password created. Q.3 What operating systems and
hardware needed ? HKMU wireless LAN supports wide range of
operating systems which include Microsoft Windows 10, Android and Apple iOS.
For hardware side, most notebook computers or mobile phones are supported provided that the wireless network adapters are
certified by Wi-Fi Alliance (http://www.wi-fi.org).
All three types : 802.11n, 802.11ac & 802.11ax are now supported by the WLAN. Wireless cards which are not Wi-Fi certified may still possible to
access HKMU WLAN, but it is not guaranteed. Q.4 Is there any time restriction
or quota in accessing the HKMU WLAN ? Currently, there is no time restriction in
accessing the HKMU WLAN and user is not bound to any time quota.
However, it is subject to future change in case of system maintenance is
required. (Users will be notified through Latest News) Q.5 Any regulations to follow
during using HKMU WLAN ? In order to maintain HKMU WLAN in good condition
to serve the participant users, "Regulations on the Use of Electronic Data and
Internet Access Facilities¡¨ should be followed. Detail of the regulations can
be found on our Student Handbook. However, some basic guidelines are
listed below during accessing HKMU WLAN. Users are not
allowed : To set up own IP
address To set up DHCP, DNS,
BOOTP, WINS servers To set up
routing or bridging between the wireless LAN and other networks
To launch port
scanning or any other hacking activities To set up own wireless
access points Q.6 What are the network
applications supported by HKMU WLAN ? HKMU WLAN supports the following network
applications: Web browsing E-Library applications
OLE Student webmail

encountered To facilitate users to use HKMU WLAN smoothly,
technical support is established and detail is as below.

Service Scope:
Face-to-face assistance in
setup of connection to HKMU Wireless Network only
(Before coming for Carry-in
Technical Support services, users are required to have their
wireless interface cards and the associated driver installed
properly.) Due to the fact that notebook PCs sold
in recent years are equipped with Wi-Fi interface, tutors are encouraged to use
HKMU WLAN for network connection. This provides zero administration and
convenience. For
tutors who intend to use wired LAN connection due to lack of Wi-Fi interface
in the notebook PC, they are requested to send the hardware address of
the Ethernet interface in advance of 2 working days to ITO for the purpose of
pre-registration and configuration. Q.09 How to use Wireless Printing
properly ? Users who use the Wireless Printing utility
provided by HKMU WLAN should adopt following good practice : Issue
their print jobs when they are actually in proximity to the printer.
It is for following reasons: Maintain security to
their own documents on-site more easily Can easily get support
for any problem encountered related to the print job (e.g. paper
jam, print queue stuck) Before you print to the
Konica Minolta 454e Octopus-operated B/W printers at Ho Sik Yee Library, you
must follow the steps below to update the
paper size
to A4 and other settings:
