How to write a successful research proposal<\/p>

Abstract<\/strong><\/p>

Having received approximately 20 successful RGC research grants and served as a member of the RGC Engineering Panel, as well as participating in the National Science Foundation of China\/Research Grants Council (NSFC\/RGC) Joint Research Scheme for several years, I am currently involved in the assessing research proposals received under the NSFC\/RGC Collaborative Research Scheme. I would like to share insights into the RGC funding and review process, along with my experience in preparing a successful RGC research proposal.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Biographies<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Professor Chin retired from HKU in 2015 and is now an Emeritus Professor of The University of Hong Kong. He is now working as Founder and Chief Solution Officer of a startup company at InnoCenter, DeepTranslate Limited, on Machine Translation of financial documents.<\/p>

Professor Chin received his B.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto in 1972, and his M.S., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University in 1974, 1975, and 1976, respectively. Prior to joining The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1985, he had taught at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County; the University of California, San Diego; the University of Alberta; the Chinese University of Hong Kong; and the University of Texas at Dallas.<\/p>

He is a Fellow of IEEE, HKIE and HKACE. At HKU, he was the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Taikoo Professor of Engineering at HKU and was the founding Head of the Department from its establishment until December 31, 1999.<\/p>

He had served as an Associate Dean of the Graduate School from 2002 to 2006 and the Faculty of Engineering from 2007 to 2014.<\/p>

Professor Chin received HKU teaching Best Teaching, Teaching Excellence Award and Outstanding Research Award in 1991, 2000 and 2010 respectively, and the RECOMB 2022 Test-of-Time Award based on the 2010 IDBA paper. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
