Enhancing C-V2X Network Connectivity with Machine Learning<\/p>

Abstract<\/strong><\/p>

C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) is a wireless communication technology that aims to improve road safety and efficiency by facilitating communication between vehicles, infrastructures, and pedestrians through cellular networks. However, the high mobility feature of vehicular networks presents significant challenges in maintaining network connectivity. In this speech, I will address several key connectivity challenges and propose solutions. The first challenge is the issue of blind broadcast in C-V2X networks when vehicles are in autonomous mode. To overcome this, machine learning models are utilized to estimate the packet reception rate at the transmitter side without requiring additional signaling from the receiver side. This estimation helps improve the reliability and latency performance of C-V2X, enabling better transmission scheme optimization. The second challenge is the frequent handover problem in Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) applications. In these scenarios, vehicles pass through network cells at high speeds, and ultra-dense deployments of base stations exacerbate the issue of frequent handovers. To address this, a new handover scheme is proposed. This scheme selects the target cell with the maximal remaining dwell time, ensuring a stable connection and reducing the need for subsequent handovers. The scheme leverages a 1D-CNN deep learning network to predict the remaining dwell time based on local measurements of received signal strength, driving speed, and direction. By tackling these challenges, the proposed solutions contribute to enhancing the connectivity and reliability of C-V2X networks. They enable more efficient communication between vehicles, infrastructures, and pedestrians, ultimately improving road safety and efficiency.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Biographies<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Dr. Aileen HOU is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science, the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. \u00a0She received her PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College London, UK in 2009. She was an acting assistant professor and the acting programme leader of the Information and Communications Technology programme of THEi between 2019-2021. Before that, she had been conducting applied research in Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) as a senior lead engineer on 3G, 4G and 5G mobile communication systems between 2011-2019. She also had working experience in Shenzhen University, IBM and Alcatel-Lucent with research focuses on V2X, Smart City, 5G, Network Optimization and Machine Learning.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
