This four-year honours degree programme aims to equip students with the academic knowledge necessary for a professional engineer in the fields of electronic engineering and computer engineering. It provides a challenging programme for students who aspire to become leaders in the technological world, and who wish to contribute to the development of electronic, computer and communication systems in the ever-changing knowledge-based economy.

The Core courses in the first two years cover a wide variety of subjects in electronic engineering and computer engineering. In Year 3 and 4, students will select areas of specialization based on their own personal and career interests. The specialization courses cover a wide range of subjects, including mobile and wireless network, digital signal processing, biomedical engineering technologies, digital multimedia and software engineering. Apart from these technical subjects, students will also study several peripheral subjects essential to their future employment as professional engineers.

Admission Requirements and Application

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Admission Requirements.

Student shall have attained in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination:

Level 3 or above in Chinese and English; Level 2 or above in Mathematics , Liberal Studies and an elective subjects.

Students who are intending to sit the HKDSE should apply through JUPASThe JUPAS Code is 9720.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fees payable for each academic year will be determined by the number of credits of the courses taken by a student. A student is normally required to take 40 credits in an academic year.

Scholarships and Grants
Government’s Subsidy Scheme

OUHK’s full-time undergraduate programmes (excluding SSSDP and Higher Diploma Programmes) are eligible for this Subsidy Scheme. All eligible local students will be provided with a non-means-tested annual subsidy up to HK$32,100* depending on the number of credits of the courses taken.

Students’ eligibility for this Subsidy Scheme is subject to the fulfillment of stipulated requirements set by the Education Bureau (EDB). For details of the scheme and eligible programmes, please visit

*A student’s eligibility for the NMTSS and the annual subsidy amount allocated in an academic year is subject to EDB’s final approval. The annual subsidy amount of NMTSS for the 2020 – 2021 academic year is HK$32,100.

OUHK’s Entrance Scholarships

The University offers entrance scholarship of $40,000 new students. Successful students may be awarded HK$40,000 again in subsequent years of study, subject to outstanding performance at the OUHK.

During the four years of study, students will need to complete 170 credits of courses, comprising 20 credits of purpose-designed General Education courses, 10 credits of English language enhancement course; 20 credits of Mathematics and Science courses; 110 credits of core and elective major courses; and 10 credits of practical training.

After graduating from OUHK, Krutz obtained an M.Sc. in Engineering Management from CityU. He is now completing his second master degree, M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering, at CUHK. Krutz has a wide range of working experience. He has been with Siemens, VTech, and PCCW.

Hugo Leung
Software and Hardware Engineer

Hugo Leung Wai-yin, who graduated from his four-year programme in 2015, won the Best Paper Award for his ‘intelligent pill-dispenser’ design at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s International Conference on Consumer Electronics – China 2015.

The pill-dispenser alerts patients via sound and LED flashes to pre-set dosage and time intervals. Unlike units currently on the market, Hugo’s design connects to any mobile phone globally. In explaining how it works, he said: ‘There are three layers in the portable pillbox. The lowest level is a controller with various devices which can be connected to mobile phones in remote locations. Patients are alerted by a sound alarm and flashes. Should they fail to follow their prescribed regime, data can be sent via SMS to relatives and friends for follow up.’ The pill-dispenser has four medicine slots, plus a back-up with a LED alert, topped by a 500ml water bottle. It took Hugo three months of research and coding to complete his design, but he feels it was worth all his time and effort.

Hugo’s public examination results were disappointing and he was at a loss about his future before enrolling at the OUHK, which he now realizes was a major turning point in his life. He is grateful for the OUHK’s learning environment, its industry links and the positive guidance and encouragement from his teachers. The University is now exploring the commercial potential of his design with a pharmaceutical company. He hopes that this will benefit the elderly and chronically ill, as well as the society at large.

Soon after completing his studies, Hugo joined an automation technology company as an assistant engineer. He is responsible for the design and development of automation devices. The target is to minimize human labor and increase the quality of products. He is developing products which are used in various sections, including healthcare, manufacturing and consumer electronics.
